As we near the end of a phenomenal year for feature film and HETV production in England, we’ve looked at some of the exciting productions that have been filming over the past 3 months. Discover what’s been filming in England (outside of London) during July – September this year…

North West

Significant Other – Quay Street Productions / ITVX

Where? Manchester

A brand-new romantic comedy filming in Manchester this October, Significant Other is adapted from the award-winning Israeli series of the same name and is expected to release in 2023 on ITXV.  

OutlanderSony Pictures / Starz

Where? Liverpool

The seventh series of the historical drama series Outlander has filmed in the North West this autumn, taking Liverpool back in time to the 1700’s!

Brassic Series 5 – Clerkenwell Films / Sky UK

Where? Lancashire

The Brassic team are once again in the North West, filming the exciting fifth series of the popular comedy drama in Blackpool and around the wider Lancashire area.  

Midlands

Strike Brontë Film and Television /BBC

Where? Skegness, Lincolnshire

Adapted from the crime novels by Robert Galbraith (aka JK Rowling), the fifth series of Strike has been filming on location in the seaside resort town of Skegness.

Two ToneKudos / BBC

Where? Digbeth Loc. Film and TV studio in Birmingham

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is working on yet another exciting project! The series Two Tone will celebrate the music movement of the same and is shooting in the brand new Digbeth film and TV Studio.

South West

Rivals ITV Studios /Disney 

Where? Bristol and TBY2

This eight-part drama based on Jilly Coopers novel is the first production to film in The Bottle Yard’s second site, TBY2, which launched this autumn!

Alex Rider Series 3 – Sony Pictures Entertainment / Amazon Studios

Where? Bristol and TBY2

This October, the Alex Rider team were back filming on location in Bristol, being another production making use of the fantastic offering at TBY2.

East & South East

The Gentleman – Moonage Pictures / Maramax TV

Where? South East

Guy Richie is producing on the TV adaptation of his 2019 film The Gentleman. With Theo James, Kaya Scodelario and Vinnie Jones on board, the series has been shooting in the South East.

My Lady Jane – Amazon Studios

Where? Dover, Kent

Based on the story of Lady Jane Grey, Amazon Studios’ My Lady Jane is set in 1500s England and has used beautiful Dover as one of its backdrops.

The Acolyte – LucasFilm / Disney

Where? Shinfield Studios, Berkshire

Lucasfilm are no strangers to filming in England, having filmed Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Andor here. Their latest Star Wars spin-off series, The Acolyte, started filming at the brand new Shinfield Studios this November.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Series 2 – Amazon Studios

Where? Bray Studios and Bovingdon Airfield Studios

Amazon Prime’s Lord of the Rings spin-off series The Rings of Power has started production of its second season at the masterful Bray Studios and Bovingdon Airfield Studios.

Chakda ‘Xpress – Clean Slate Filmz / Netflix

Where? Durham

Inspired by the journey of cricketer Jhulan Goswami, the Bollywood film Chakda ‘Xpress made a pit stop in Durham this year!

Yorkshire

The Crown Series 6 – Left Bank Pictures / Netflix

Where? Hull, Yorkshire  

The sixth and final series of The Crown has entered production and shot in Hull City Hall this October, doubling for 1940s London.
