Film and high-end TV production has got off to a tremendous start this year, with crews setting up to shoot in some fantastic spots across the English Regions. From spooky thrillers to period dramas, explore our roundup of some of the exciting productions which have been shooting in England, outside of London, through January to March this year.
North West
A Gentleman in Moscow – Entertainment One / Paramount+
Where? Bolton, Greater Manchester
Ewan McGregor is starring in a TV adaptation of Amor Towles’ bestselling novel A Gentleman in Moscow, with the cast and crew filming in the ever-popular location of Bolton in Greater Manchester.
Boiling Point TV Series – Ascendant Fox / Matriarch Productions / BBC
Where? Space Studios, Manchester
One-shot masterpiece Boiling Point was received with great acclaim when it was released in 2021 – following this, a spin-off TV adaptation of Boiling Point has entered production, starring Stephen Graham and based at Space Studios in Manchester.
Fool Me Once – Netflix / Quay Street Productions
Where? Manchester
Netflix are bringing us another Harlen Coben adaptation after the gripping Stay Close and The Stranger. Fool Me Once has been filming in Manchester and stars Michelle Keegan and Richard Armitage.
Brassic Series 5 – Clerkenwell Films / Sky UK
Where? Lancashire
The fifth series of much-loved comedy series Brassic wrapped earlier this year, which filmed in Blackpool and around the wider Lancashire area.
Midlands
This Town – Kudos / BBC
Where? Digbeth Loc. Film and TV studio, Birmingham
Based at the brand new Digbeth Loc. Film and TV Studio in Birmingham, This Town is another series written by Steven Knight which is set in Wolverhampton and Birmingham.
South West
The Killing Kind – Paramount + / Eleventh Hour Films
Where? The Bottle Yard Studios, Bristol
The Killing Kind is an upcoming adaptation of Jane Casey’s 2022 breakthrough legal thriller novel of the same name, recently announced to be in production filming at The Bottle Yard in Bristol.
Ruby Speaking – Yellow Door Productions / ITVX
Where? Bristol
Set in a Bristol call centre, comedian Jayde Adams stars as Ruby in this upcoming off-beat comedy which has been filming in locations across the city this year!
Rivals – Happy Prince TV / Disney+
Where? TBY2, Bristol
Rivals is a TV adaptation from Disney+ based on Jilly Cooper’s novel of the same name, starring a phenomenal cast which includes David Tennant, Aidan Turner and Danny Dyer.
East & South East
Ghosts Series 5 – Monumental Television / BBC
Where? West Horsley Place, Surrey
Popular sitcom Ghosts is returning for a fifth series, which started production in January this year. West Horsley Place in Surrey has been the home of Ghosts since its start in 2019, doubling for the spooky Button House!
Mary and George – Hera Pictures / AMC+
Where? Kent
Mary and George will see Julianne Moore star as the Countess of Buckingham in a series which chronicles the infamous Countess’ twisted power and influence.
The Devil’s Hour Series 2 – Hartswood Films / Amazon Studios
Where? Farnborough Film Studios, Hampshire
After a phenomenal first series, The Devil’s Hour is returning to newly established Farnborough Film Studios to film series 2 of the hit Amazon thriller starring Jessica Raine.
North East
Jackdaw – Netflix
Where? Tees Valley
Although little has been revealed about the intriguing project so far, crews for the action feature Jackdaw have been setting up in Tees Valley!
Yorkshire
Blitz – New Regency Productions / Apple TV +
Where? Hull, East Yorkshire
Steve McQueen is taking on another era of British history with Blitz, a historical drama starring Saoirse Ronan, Harris Dickinson, Erin Keyyman and Stephen Graham. The production has been filming at various locations in Hull, East Yorkshire, as well as some other exciting spots across the regions.
