Waverley Borough Council is situated in the South of Surrey, bordering Hampshire and West Sussex. Under an hour from Shepperton Studios, Farnborough International Studios and Black Hangar Studios, the Borough of Waverley is a popular area for filming on location.
With some incredible credits to their name including: The Witcher, Silo, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, The Devil’s Hour and The Sandman, to only name a few.
Whether you’re seeking a timeless village green for a cosy crime caper, a characterful high street steeped in history for your next period drama, or sweeping countryside vistas worthy of a fantasy epic, Waverley offers cinematic inspiration around every corner.
Farnham
Farnham is a historic market town that sits within the Surrey Hills. The area has been populated since the Ice Age, making it older than Stonehenge and the Pyramids. Many of the buildings you will see in this town are from the Georgian era.
Farnham was recently named England’s first World Craft City as part of the UNESCO Creative Cities programme. Farnham has several highly acclaimed art and craft venues, including the Crafts Study Centre, the University of Creative Arts, the Farnham Maltings and more.
Farnham is home to some historic and film friendly buildings such as Waverley Abbey, whose credits include Hot Fuzz, The Mummy, The Huntsman: Winters War.

Goldalming
Godalming is an ancient market and former coaching town situated along the picturesque River Wey. With its historic buildings, quaint narrow streets, and scenic surroundings, it offers a perfect blend of heritage and charm. The town is easily accessible from London, boasting two train stations with direct services to London Waterloo.
Among its filming credits is The Holiday, starring as the idyllic English village where Iris (Kate Winslet) lived.

Haslemere
Haslemere is a historic and charming market town tucked away in the southernmost part of Waverley, within the stunning Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Surrounded by rolling countryside, the town is known for its timbered and tile-hung houses, quaint cottages, and vibrant mix of shops, restaurants, and cafés.
A cultural highlight is the Haslemere Museum, home to fascinating artefacts from ancient civilizations—including an Egyptian mummy—as well as natural history exhibits featuring animals, fossils, and plant specimens.
For live entertainment, Haslemere Hall offers a diverse programme of musical theatre, opera, film screenings, and more, making it a key venue for the local arts scene.

Cranleigh
Cranleigh proudly holds the title of “the largest village in Britain” and is renowned for its vibrant cultural life. Nestled on the edge of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it offers excellent access to countryside walks and outdoor activities. Cranleigh also boasts a flourishing arts scene, with galleries, live music events, and local crafts playing a central role in village life.

Chiddingfold
Chiddingfold is a picturesque village known for its timber-framed Wealden houses, charming cottages, and spectacular surrounding countryside.
Steeped in history, it rose to fame during the reign of Elizabeth I as a centre for glass-making, with around 11 glassworks once operating on the village green.
At the heart of Chiddingfold lies a traditional village scene, complete with welcoming pubs, local shops, and a tranquil pond—perfect for a leisurely visit or peaceful escape.

Waverley offers a range of quintessentially British scenery where filmmakers have a multitude of authentic, historic Towns & Villages to choose from.
With a variety of architecture, rural settings and with excellent transport links to London, Waverley provides the perfect backdrop for Film & TV productions.
The area is extremely film-friendly, with the help of Film Waverley and the Surrey Film Office, making Waverley a fantastic place to accommodate crews of all sizes.
