Create Studios has successfully launched ScreenSwindon, a new Film Office supporting productions to source filming locations in the area, navigating permits and providing advice on local resources.

Marilyn Fitzgerald, Managing Director at Creative Studios has been leading on the new initiative and has welcomed the support from Creative England:

Charlotte Wood, Production Liaison Manager for the South West region at Creative England’s Filming in England team, added:

Swindon is a historic town in Wiltshire well positioned one hour from London and just 40 minutes from the main South West filming production hub of Bristol along the central M4 corridor. The town has a wealth of industrial heritage, urban landscapes, period properties, green spaces and innovative high-tech buildings providing a wide range of locations to industry.

Creative England’s Filming in England team work with many different council set ups across the country, from Regional, City and Local Film Offices to District, Borough, County and sometimes even Parish Councils. Councils with strong buy-in from senior leadership teams and high levels of filming see the wider full financial benefits of local economic impact, job opportunities, and local services from facilitating a production in the area. As an example, productions filming on location bring a boost to the local economy with a major feature film spending around £187,000 per day and a high-end television drama spending £35,000 per day.

Swindon has already hosted several high-profile Bond movies from A View To A Kill (1984) with Roger Moore and The World is Not Enough (2000) with Piers Brosnan performing an action sequence inside the innovatively designed former Motorola building.

Councillor Marina Strinkovsky, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Placemaking and Planning, reflects on the 007 visits and further opportunities filming will bring to the town:

The launch of ScreenSwindon spotlights the area to industry, adds a much needed production service to Wiltshire and creates further opportunities within the local area.
