An all-new Peaky Blinders film has landed on Netflix. Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man returns to wartime Birmingham, where Tommy Shelby emerges from self‑imposed exile as the Second World War intensifies. In the film, Cillian Murphy reprises his iconic leading role alongside Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Sophie Rundle, Barry Keoghan and Stephen Graham.

To recreate the industrial landscape of WWII England, the production filmed in Birmingham, Manchester, Derbyshire, Liverpool, Yorkshire and Oxfordshire, supported by Filming in England and regional Film Offices and Local Authorities operating in those areas.

The Locations Department, led by Supervising Location Manager Liam Irving, contacted Filming in England when the project kicked off in 2024 with a number of location briefs to source filming spots across England that aligned with their vision. Having worked on all previous seasons of Peaky Blinders, our Production Liaison Manager Team worked on location briefs from private tunnels, WW2 mortuary locations, dock-house warehouses and mills.

Birmingham

The West Midlands is in the DNA of Peaky Blinders: not only is creator Steven Knight from Birmingham, but the leading characters are born-and bred there too. The Immortal Man was based at newly established studio Digbeth Loc Studios, a 46,000 sqft studio which was founded by Knight himself.

As well as being based at the studio in Digbeth, the production filmed on location across the city, including the canals of Gas Street and central Birmingham. Filming was supported by Film Birmingham, part of Production Central WM. Production Central WM is the West Midlands region’s dedicated production services agency, backed by the West Midlands Combined Authority and partnered with Create Central. We spoke to Sector Lead, Martin Simms, about the impact of Peaky Blinders and the new feature film:

The Black Country Living Museum, Dudley

This museum in Dudley is renowned for its 26-acre open-are recreation of 1920s Birmingham, featuring cobbled streets, industrial buildings and canal views that make it an outstanding filming offer in the West Midlands. In The Immortal Man, the museum was used to double Charlie Strong’s yard.

Liverpool

From The Batman to The City is Ours and the upcoming four-part Beatles cinematic event, Liverpool is a film and TV hot spot in the North West. Key scenes were filmed here, including at St George’s Hall, Hartley’s Village and Pikington Glass. Liverpool Film Office support production across the city region and we spoke to the team there:

With a decade plus history of our region enriching the story of the Shelby-saga, we are proud to see our locations on screen once again in its final chapter – including the grandeur of St George’s Hall, the historic Hartley’s Village and the industrial Pilkington glass.”

Derbyshire

Calke Abbey is a National Trust location sitting near Ticknall in Derbyshire; in fact, this magnificent Grade I listed country house was built in 1701. The Immortal Man filmed there in early December 2024, where the interiors, stable-yards and surrounding parkland were used as Tommy Shelby’s lonesome country house. Oxfordshire

Didcot Railway Centre in Oxfordshire is a railway museum and preservation engineering site that homes 1930’s engine sheds and a huge collection of engines, coaches and wagons – alongside stream trains themselves! In The Immortal Man, the railway centre doubled Nazi concentration camp.

Manchester

Previous seasons of Peaky Blinders have filmed across Manchester, and the team returned to the city for The Immortal Man, where it filmed on location and at Space Studios Manchester from September to the end of December 2024. The production used: unit base parking, the costume department, the art department, production offices, hair and makeup and dressing rooms.

On location spots across Manchester include: Castlefield, Sackville Street Building and Mayfield Depot, with production being supported by Screen Manchester, who are on hand to assist filming across the city.

West Northamptonshire

As well as the Midlands and North of England, West Northamptonshire features in The Immortal Man, where Brampton Valley Way was used for countryside scenes. A popular walking stretch, this location sits on the former Northampton to Market Harborough line.

Yorkshire

Filming for The Immortal Man took place in multiple areas of Yorkshire’s diverse filming landscape, including Little Germany in Bradford, Goole Docks and Bradford. As the dedicated film office for Yorkshire and Humber, Screen Yorkshire supported The Immortal Man with locations and sourcing local crew.

Shepperton Studios, Surrey

Part of the Pinewood Group, Shepperton Studios is where some of our most-loved productions were filmed, from Alien to Harry Potter, 1917 and much more. The Immortal Man filmed scenes here, making use of this outstanding studio facility available in Surrey, just outside of London.
